What is your reaction to the text you just read:

Pretty weird man. I am grossed out but I don't dislike it.
I have problems knowing how I feel about things so these questions are hard.
I will have to expand upon this when I can digest my thoughts.

What connections did you make with the story that you read, discuss the elements of the work with which you are able to connect:

Humans being used as hosts for parasitic young isn't a new thing but I have not seen it explored in a worldbuilding cultural context where it goes into a relationship aspect between parasite and human. Is it technically parasitism if the Tlic give the humans age stopping, healing eggs, or is it mutually beneficial? Usually the host is not consenting and the alien does not care or lacks sentience.
In the end Gan asks for a choice, but he really doesn't have one because it's him or his sister. There is an inherent power structure that prevents him from fully having a choice.
I think this would be interesting to expand upon for more worldbuilding.

How would you adapt this story into another medium? What would you change? What medium?

Probably audio play. I feel a lot could be done with sound effects of the Tlic. I think more description of them would be nice.

What does the future look like in fifteen years?

Hopefully I will be working as a freelancer and producing my own work. I sure do hope we have a revolution against the upper class and corporations such as google, amazon, and disney die. And that we have an earth that isn't on fire.
But in reality I think we will be worse off, technology will take away rights and freedoms and we will be subjugated even more by billionaires who will destroy the planet and take off to space.

What does the future look like in fifty years?

God I hope my time on earth is done.

     For this week I read “Tan-Tan and the Rolling Calf”. First off, big fan of ankylosaurids. Secondly what I noticed most in this story is the power of words and oral presentation. The piece is also written in a dialect, like a mix between how Patois is written and english, it’s written how people talk. I don’t think this is by mistake. Dialects associated with African or Caribbean people are often looked down upon and not even recognized as a real dialect or language. That the heroine ends her persecution by telling her story through oral prose empathizes the importance of words, so the dialect being chosen is a very direct choice.      There are also themes of childhood being taken away. Tan-Tan herself lost her home at a young age, and as she grew older lost her father through the abuse he did to her. She hangs out with a Douen, Abitefa. Week Eleven: Cyberpunk and Steampunk

“Case fell into the prison of his own flesh.”      I think it is a common feeling among those with chronic pain and physical disabilities, to feel contempt for one’s own body. At least I do. The bigger sting than the physical pain is that it prevents you from doing what you love. It is not surprising that depression is co-morbid. We see this in the main character of Neuromancer as he struggles with not being able to jump into the matrix due to damage to his nervous system. He is described as “living for the bodiless exultation of cyberspace” and when this is taken away we see him turn to drugs, trying to chase a similar high to cyberspace, to not feel his body. Week Three: Japanese Horror

            One thing that might separate folk supernatural and ghost stories to Hollywood horror is that they are also meant to expound lessons relating to the culture it was created in. “THE RETURN OF YEN-TCHIN-KING” from “Some Chinese Ghosts” From Lafcadio Hearn of those and one in the collection in particular feels like it has a message to say. I can only speculate from a western viewpoint, and so I cannot say what the author’s intentions were, only what my own personal interpretations are.             The big theme of this story is loyalty and how even in death you will be rewarded. Throughout the short he displays exemplary poise in the face of those than can- and do, harm him. This story is set up so that his resolve keeps being tested, from terrifying imagery to the mockery of the rebels, and eventually to offering a lucrative position.
